Man has been hunting antelope for the purposes of food, clothing and shelter.
Hunting actually predates the educated world as we know it today and there are many archaeological discoveries that confirm
this fact.
Most likely the first weapons to be used were rocks that were thrown to kill small game. Soon after people started using spears;
a long piece of wood with a sharp point. A very effective close in weapon that could bring down large animals.
Some of our earliest ancestors also used running down animals to get their food. Animals may be faster than men but a determined
man could run down almost anything. They just plain wore the animal out until it couldn't run to get away and then they killed it.
Now you might think that's far fetched but hunting this way is still used in some parts of Southern Africa, today.
The bow and the arrow were developed, but nothing like anything today. It was a simple tool. A piece of wood, few feet long, a
groove in it to hold the arrow. The bow and arrow becomes the first, true, long range weapon that men used. It gave men that
know how to use one the advantage to those who didn’t know. It enabled them to provide meat for their families much faster.
Society evolved into groups that stayed in one place and grew their own food. Hunting became a specialized job. Time passed and
hunting became a sport, not that much for the meat but for the trophies. With the bow, the rifle also become a big part of the killing
of the animal. Men and dogs also started hunting together. Hard to believe but Poodles were the first breed of hunting dogs.
Hunting has evolved even further than before with what are now called bloodless hunts. You can actually go on a safari where
the sole purpose is to capture pictures of big game with a camera.
